MAHATMA GANDHI SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR NEPALESE STUDENTS STUDYING IN CLASS XI IN NEPAL
Embassy of India, Kathmandu invites applications for Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship on prescribed data-sheets from Nepalese nationals enrolled in Class-XI in recognized schools/colleges in Nepal. 1000 scholarships are available under the scheme for the academic year 2009-10.
2. Eligibility
(i) Candidates should be Nepalese citizen.
(ii) Candidates should be regular student of class XI and studying in any recognized school/ college of Nepal. They should have secured at least 75% marks in aggregate in Class X / SLC examination – In case of having completed this examination from the districts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur or at least 60% marks in case of having completed this examination from other districts.
(iii) Family income of the candidate must be less than NRs. 1,20,000/- per annum.
3. Age Limit: Applicants should be between 15 and 20 years as on July 01, 2009.
4. Scholarship Amount: Selected students will get a scholarship of NRs. 500/- per month in the first year. This will be continued in the second year also, provided the awardee gets 50% or above marks in Class-XI. The scholarship will be discontinued if the percentage of marks obtained by the awardee falls below 50% in class XI or for any other reason that the Embassy may deem necessary.
5. Selection Process:
(i) Short-listed candidates will be called for interview, which will be conducted in Kathmandu, Birgunj and at other regional centers in November/ December, 2009. The final selection will be based on academic record and performance in interview. Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed conveyance charges up to a maximum of NRs. 500/- on producing proof of having undertaken the journey i.e. bus / air tickets.
(ii) Name of candidates short listed for the interview will be placed on Indian Embassy website & intimation to this effect will be given through advertisement in newspapers. Candidates are advised to interact solely with the Education Wing, Embassy of India, Kathmandu/ Consulate General of India, Birgunj on the scholarship scheme. The candidates should indicate their address and contact telephone numbers/ e-mail address clearly on the data sheet. Any change in address/ telephone number should also be intimated immediately through letter. Candidates are advised to check the Embassy website for any further information with regard to this scholarship scheme.
(iii) Girls, dalits and physically challenged students are strongly advised to apply for the scholarship.
(iv) Candidates studying in Class XI in Chitwan, Makwanpur, Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusha districts should submit their application forms at CGI Birgunj. Candidates studying in Class XI from districts other than those mentioned above should submit their forms at Embassy of India, Education Wing, Kathmandu.
(v) Children of retired/ serving Nepalese soldiers in Indian Army are required to furnish a certificate to this effect and send their application through Assistant Military Attaché (welfare), Embassy of India, Education Wing, Kathmandu.
6. Instructions for filling Data-Sheet
(i) The Data-Sheet should be downloaded from the Indian Embassy website www.indianembassy.org.np and should be filled legibly, preferably typed and should be submitted in 1 copy. Candidates are required to submit application at only one place i.e. either at Embassy of India, Kathmandu or at Consulate General of India, Birgunj.
(ii) Candidates should attach 1 attested photograph on data sheet, attested photocopy of citizenship certificate, attested copy of mark sheet of Class X / SLC only and parental income certificate issued by CDO or School/ College authorities where the student is studying. Those candidates who do not possess a citizenship certificate can submit the attested photocopy of citizenship certificate of their parents. Original documents should only be brought during the time of interview. Data-sheet may be submitted either personally or by post to the office of Attaché (Education), Embassy of India, P. O. Box 292, Kapurdhara Marg, Kathmandu or at Consulate General of India, Shreepur, Birgunj; not later than September 14, 2009. Forms will be accepted on all working days between 10:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs.
